TPM:

The Chair of the Sumter South Carolina Tea Party posted -- and then quickly pulled -- a post on her Facebook page earlier this month that joked about throwing the Obamas out of a helicopter.

Well, it makes sense this person is from South Carolina. But really, when is it ever funny to joke about the President's death or the First Family, or anyone? I bet this person calls herself a "real American" or "proud American", which can't actually be true if he wish that on the President and his family. I hope the Secret Service pays her a visit. Words have consequences.

Everyone is always welcome on my seeds, I will try recommend everyone's post for taking their time to do so, and I won't delete anyone. Please stay respectful of one another. Please watch your language.

There was a seed the other day from a right-winger on Newsvine here complaining about Maxine Waters telling Tea Partiers to go to hell. That was wrong. But you'll be guaranteed you won't see her or anyone else on the right seeding this and then condemning it. Just look around Newsvine to see who seeds what.

So?

People constantly joked about Bush choking on a pretzel, people constantly joked about Cheney and the hunting shooting, a whole entire mockumentary was made about Bush being assassinated.

So because it is Obama, he is immune to jokes being made about him?

Much ado about nothing, politicians, anyone in the spotlight is made fun of all the time.

Get over it.

No. Everyone who made those jokes about Bush were investigated. A couple even went to jail.

Should anyone be immune by making these kinds of comments about Obama? He is of course "different than any president we've ever had"... whatever the hell that means...

Maxmillion,

A. I am not on the left, liberal, or a Democrat so I don't care what the left does.

B. Saying someone else does it does not make it right and it does not make this any less terrible.

C. Wishing someone's death isn't very Christian

D. It is never right to wish anyone's death so I don't care who does it.

E. Where is the respect for the Office of the President of the United States of America?

Have a good day.

KShark,

A. Saying "they said it about Bush" does not make this right or make it any less terrible.

B. When did anyone joke about the deaths of Bush's wife and children? I don't think that happened

C. Bush chocking on a pretzel would have been an accident and this "joke" would have been murder, but it doesn't not make either okay.

D. Where did I say since it is Obama he should be immune to jokes being made about him? Plus there is a difference between a joke and this comment. Saying they wish President Obama and the First Family should be pushed out of a helicopter isn't a joke. It is wishing death upon the President and his family.

E. It is never okay to wish anyone's death and it isn't funny to "joke" about it either. No matter who it is.

F. It isn't the same as every other "jokes" about politicians, jokes are about someone's death.

And NO, I won't "Get Over It". It is a free country and you can't take away my freedoms.

Have a good day.

Where is the respect for the Office of the President of the United States of America?

As long as the Obama family is in the White House...it doesn't exist.

The same people who DEMANDED respect for Bush and Cheney, calling people traitors and treasonous..even for DISAGREEING with what Bush and Cheney were doing to the Country?

Yeah, those same people joined up in droves to militias and the ridiculous tea party as soon as President Obama won the election, and they'll never accept his Presidency as legitimate. It's what the Birther movement was about, it's what the Tea Party movement is about.

Gone is the concern for America as a Country...who cares if America succeeds as long as HE loses...whatever is BAD for him is good. Up is down, forward is backwards.

These same people will vote against themselves, as long as they believe it will provide a bad outcome for Obama. They will vote for people who want to END SOCIAL SECURITY and most other social programs that provide a safety net for the American people. They will vote to keep taxes low on the RICHEST Americans, who only pay 15% on the money they make...while paying 28% themselves. They will vote to continue corporate welfare (billion dollar corporations got tax REFUNDS last year, including GE)...while voting to END their own. They will vote to continue taxpayer subsidies to oil companies and banks....

...all to attempt to make OUR PRESIDENT unsuccessful in his efforts to fix all of that.

Well done GOP/TP Inc....your strategy of burning the village to "save" it is paying off.

Absolutely. I think it is despicable when disrespect and hate for a President reaches this level. Doing it in private is okay but Tea Partyers need to realize that "jokes" like this will only undermine our cause.

As a spin on "Hate the sin, not the sinner" I think the tea Party mantra should be - "Hate the liberal , destroy the Progressive, crush those leftist scum .... but love the Democrat".

Openly wishing harm on the President is not right for either party.

TheDissentingVoice--

I had to go look it up since I never saw it. Do you realize that movie was a BRITISH mockumentary?

Death of a President is a 2006 British high concept motion picture about the fictional assassination of George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. President, on 19 October 2007 in Chicago, Illinois. The film is presented as a future history mockumentary and uses actors, archival video footage as well as computer-generated special effects to present the hypothetical aftermath the event had on civil liberties, racial profiling, journalistic sensationalism and foreign policy.

Please explain how THAT movie was made by AMERICAN LIBERALS...

ridiculous.

Really.

And now since Brother Obama is asking for shared sacrifice, how about the 51% start sharing in the sacrifice ?

Don't you mean PRESIDENT Obama?

Here's what you said in a thread about President Obama's re-election campaign:

Well, never underestimate the power of unions and get-out-the-vote hustlers in the DemFascistoCrat party. They are past masters at this game.

Apparently you like those scary words the GOP/TP Inc. throws around interchangeably. Since you seem confused about the rightwing ideology of Fascism, here:

Fascism was founded during World War I by Italian national syndicalists who combined left-wing and right-wing political views, but fascism gravitated to the right in the early 1920s.[11][12] Italian Fascists described fascism as a right-wing ideology in the political program The Doctrine of Fascism.

It's just a little blurb from wikipedia, so it's by no means complete...but you can do your own homework.

Nice way to throw a sideways Fascist label on our President though.

Now the Democrats are socialists! Interesting.

You might want to do a little studying on the differences between Fascism and Socialism, since you don't seem to understand them. NEITHER apply to the Representative form of Government in America, nor do they apply to our good mixture of religious freedoms and rights as well as capitalism mixed with social programs.

They're just scary words the rightwing likes to hurl around.

Thanks Colonial for seeding this link. It is despicable and a crime to threaten any President or member of the First Family. This is not a laughing matter.

determined and Dissenting, I HATED Bush 43 for what he did to this country. But I would have had the same reaction to someone who said that about Bush. There are no excuses for the call to kill a sitting President.

Have we not recently seen that the escalation of violent rhetoric can turn to violence? As to that movie, I never heard of it and would not give it anything but remonstration.

However I believe colodomom has addressed the allegations that this had a relationship to American Politics. No more than when Bush got a shoe thrown at him. It is a matter of World opinion and 'mocumentary' of the most inapropriate kind.

I was in California with a group from San Antonio who were vying for the next Summer Olympics to be in SA. The guest of the day was Ronald Reagan. When Nancy walked him across the stadium to the microphone, someone from my group booed him. I stood up and identified the culprit, and vituperated him with prejudice.

Did I like what Reagan did to this country? No. Nor would I sit by and let a former President be insulted.

The DissentingVoice-

Ohhh, I can sense the pain in your voice. Will you, now on newsvine, unconditionally condemn this movie also ?

BTW I was not a member here and do not even know if newsvine existed but I remember when that movie came out and I happened to be a member of forum that leaned very, very right. I had a lengthy discussion with very conservative people about how disrespectful and terrible I find that movie to be. Actually at the time I did not realize it was a British production and really it would not have mattered, but of course the fingers were pointed at liberals. I do not believe Bush was a fabulous president but I do not condone calling him names or threatening him, even if its pretend. I insist that my children learn that our president is the leader of our country and should be addressed with respect, you don't have to like his politics or policies but you must be respectful, kinda like teachers, parents, and policemen. I find the cute little names and rudeness that abounds today petty, immature and divisive and it certainly does nothing to add to anyone's argument.

In short just because some people did it, well there are jerks on all sides, and condoning poor behavior because of someone else's poor behavior aggravates the problem. It is no better when a liberal does it than when a conservative does it, etc.

And YES I unconditionally condemn that movie.

Patently false, from your own link, condemn this movie , we find this from the liberals:

"[7] Hillary Clinton, then junior United States Senator from New York, told The Journal News of Rockland, Westchester, and Putnam counties at the annual New Castle Community Day in Chappaqua that, "I think it's despicable. I think it's absolutely outrageous. That anyone would even attempt to profit on such a horrible scenario makes me sick."[8]

CNN and NPR also refused to broadcast advertisements for the film.[13

In the Village Voice, J. Hoberman said it was "dramatically inert, but a minor techno-miracle" and that it "skews more theoretical than sensationalist ... Bush is presented as a martyr."[3]

determined and Dissenting, I HATED Bush 43 for what he did to this country

I was living overseas during 26 years and came back in 1999. To me, it was logic to vote for Al Gore. In my previous years I was not interested in politics but due that my first goal was to practice written English, started to post in the NYTimes after a gruesome trying to hold the power by the Dems.

Started to watch close to Al Gore and day by day he disappointed us. Then GWB announced that he was running. I remember that day and I told my hubby:
"Is this man joking?"

Little by little followed the elections and the rest is history. My TV was 24/7 with the back and forth of the Bush fighting against the lawsuits, the chad/sunshine chad/pregnant chad and the "intentions of the voter".

The rest is history.

Earlier today there was a seed about the Assemblyman's wife in New Jersey who sent hate e-mail to her husband's opponent, Carl Lewis, commenting on his "dark skin." I have the same comment on this lady in South Carolina. There are way too many conservatives in this country who think there is no political rhetoric too crazy or extreme as long as it's attacking liberals, Democrats and all things Obama. It's not about free speech, it's about common decency. Say what you want, but don't expect pats on the back and love letters for being racist.

I find it strange that now it was all a joke. Would it have still been "just a joke" if it hadn't of hit the fan? I'm sorry, but this isn't about a party, a section of the country, but just one real dumb, poor excuse for a white woman.

Probably why I've gotten to the point, that I don't care anything for any politician now...in or out of office. They can't discuss their job performance, policies or anything they have to back up with facts. Maybe this is just the type of people we have to chose from to put into office...regardless of level. Left wingers did all the time with Bush.

People in leadership roles in the Democratic party did that? Proof, please?

This woman is TEA Party LEADER. The TEA Party runs the GOP now. There is a big difference between some Democratic voter and a leader.

But again, it looks like someone on the right wants to deflect rather than condemn. That just reflects poorly on yourself and the right.

Left wingers did all the time with Bush. They even burned Bush dolls in effigies and had Bush dolls hanging by a noose among other things. So.. this should come as no surprise. The Left wingers had a lot of practice at hate towards Bush and now... when it comes to Obama.. and somebody making a dumb comment... has all this faux outrage about it. It's pathetic and its hypocritical. Pot meet kettle.

Simplistic Reality,

I am sorry Simplistic, but did you miss the part where I said it wasn't right with things said/did to Bush? Plus did you miss the part where I said I am not on the left, a democrat, or a liberal? Plus, when did people "joke" about murdering Laura and the twins? And if they did, that would be wrong too.

Pot meet kettle

You replied to my comment so where does that saying work for me?

Plus where in your reply do you say that it was a terrible comment and it should not have been done? Otherwise, it makes your reply sound like it is okay for this person's comment because what people say about Bush. And I am not saying you are saying that, but that is the impression you are giving off and you probably just forgot to add that in.

Have a good day.

Magnus Canis,

A. When and who said that on Newsvine? I know plenty of people hate Tea Parties, but I don't remember wishing them dead.

B. Even if people said that on here, this is an internet message board and she is representative and in a leadership role of a political party. Big difference, but both should not happen.

C. How does one terrible statement justify another terrible statement? What ever happened to being the better person, taking the high road, or turning the other cheek?

D. How can someone representing a group calling themselves "true patriots" make a "joke" about the murder of President and the First Family? I do not believe those two items can co-exist.

Have a good day.

There is no "Tea Party Leader". That's where the bull@!$%# lies. The Tea Party movement is a grass roots campaign against huge Gov. out of control Gov. spending.. how our liberties have been infringed.. etc, etc. nation wide.

Now.. there are many out there for personal / political reasons are trying to exploit the Tea Party Movement. Many are just "in name only" etc, etc. Using the name.. etc, etc.

The only person running for office who is true to his roots and I would say is an original Tea Party Movement inspiration.. is Ron Paul. He isn't a loon like some who are claiming they are for political reasons.

Parts of the Tea Party movement have been hijacked by special interests and political movements which... is really to bad. It's the fringe groups that are giving it a bad name.

Magnus Canis,

Was there really a reason to be so rude and disrespectful? It is not the way to ask someone to do something and then expect them to do what you ask.

Did you miss the part where I said I wasn't a liberal ? So why are you asking me to show liberals doing something? Again, you are ignoring the high road path.

One should not do the right and just thing only when others are doing it first.

From the day I started posting on this site, I decided to take that high road. I always try to be polite, never delete anyone's post (except ads), try not to be disrespectful, and I always wish everyone (even if I total disagree with them) to have a good day and I actually mean it. You can call it a "pious attempt at superiority", but I call it doing the right thing and treating others how I would want to be treated. Ask others on the Vine, this is who I am.

P.S. I haven't gone on that other story because I have a very busy full time job and I don't post on most seeds. It is wrong to tell someone to go to h@!!, but whether I go to that seed and make a comment does not change anything.

Have a good day.

    Hello Barbara,

I really do appreciate the kind words. I do try to be polite and patient with people, but I can fully admit that I am far from perfect.

I am not really sure why you wrote the first sentence, but I am only saying this because I am intrigued why you thought this. I am not on either side of the political spectrum. I am not a Republican or a Democrat. I am not a liberal or conservative. I am a moderate independent. Now, I am liberal on some issues, but I am also conservative on other issues and moderate on others. One thing I can't stand from politicians is hate and partisanship because it is bad for the country.

Further, I would consider it my obligation to mention this at this point in this thread where you seem to be getting vituperation where it is not due

I am sorry if any of my replies appeared to be a little bit bitter, but it was not intented to come off that way. Even if I totally disagree with someone, I don't hate them or think badly of them, because America is made up of a lot of different opinions and I think that is what makes this country great.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

I noted that the number of people who are supposed to be made happy by throwing the Obamas off the Helicopter is roughly equivalent to the remainder of the population that would exist if you subtract the African Americans. In other words it was really intended to say that it would make all the white people happy. That was a racist joke, no matter what anyone tells you to claim that it was not.

While I agree in theory, the women the republicans are rolling out seem to be setting the bar really low. While I don't even like Nancy Pelosi, I have to say the crop of female republicans lately maker her look great.

Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Sharon Angle, or Christina O'donnell. They may look fairly pretty but that is about where my compliments will end. The only republican I have any thought of voting for is Huntsmen, but odds are at this point it will be back to voting for President Obama.

I am neither democrat, republican, green, socialist, or marxist. I vote for who makes the most sense to me. I didn't care for either President Bush, but would defend him to those who make cruel jokes about him. I don't particularly care for Sarah Palin, but really respect John McCain for his service to his country. While I would point out things I disagreed with Palin on or point out errors in statements she made, I would never condone someone threatening her life or the lives of her family. Give me credit for not using the C word.

Credit given! As much as I dislike that "C" word, this woman comes awfully close to qualifying for its use. (imo)

As much as I really disliked the previous President and his administration, I never wished he or them any harm, physical or otherwise. Sure I thought the pretzel thing was kind of funny. Hey, who hasn't choked on something, including beverages? Even so, the whole pretzel incident only became funny in a past tense sort of way. After it was clearly apparent Fmr. Pres. Bush(43) was just fine and unharmed, (and thankfully so).

I did however seriously and sincerely wish someone would give that man a blowjob, as it seems that is the only offensive act a President can do to get himself impeached. The Republicans did after all spend well over $50MM going after Fmr. President Clinton over that very act. [shakes head]

As bad as some of our elected officials are, and as much as we may dislike or disagree with their politics or policies, it is NEVER okay to "joke" or pray for their deaths, or the deaths/misfortune of their families.

Lately the "jokes" have moved beyond simply tacky and bad taste and right on over to wishful thinking.

Is that not a veiled threat or a call to action? You folks dog-pile on the Tea Party and Republicans, but refuse to see the mess in your own backyards.

So funny! I had responded to FM's contention that he was agnostic, and *poof* my comment disappeared into thin air!!!! I spent several frustrated minutes trying to find it, LOL. However, I'm was very pleasantly surprised to discover that the target's trolling days are over (until he re-regs anyway). Buh-bye FM - it's been real:-)

Tea partiers are so stupid they probably think they could use a nuke on the Mason-Dixon line and achieve the same results.

Looks like this woman has been playing her grandchilds grand theft auto game again.

In all seriousness, if this lady had any credibility before it's completely gone. On second thought, she probably scored a few points with baggers everywhere. They are pro life up until the child becomes a democrat. I mean, do i have to remind anyone of what Glenn Beck said of the slain children in Norway?

I lived in Sumter for the two longest years of my life. You wouldn't believe how backward they were(maybe still are). It's no surprise this came from someone in Sumter (FYI, the is a different place than Ft. Sumter, located on the coast). I hope the SS pays her a visit and interrogates her for a long time.

One question though: why'd she pull the joke off if she really didn't see a problem with it?

Her and the radical religious right-wing TP believe it is OK to commit murder to anyone who is not a true evangelistic believer. Make no mistake if they could they would definitely throw President Obama out of a helicopter window..This radicals are extremely dangerous...

A movie made in the UK and not praised by any Democratic leaders that I can find is not the same as this comment made by a leader of a movement that is the heart of the GOP.

    Weak analogy.

Det, are you insinuating that I joked about Bush's death?

Disgusting and untrue. What a despicable thing to insinuate. Hateful.

And reported. Please don't lie about me or attribute untrue words to me because you have no other point to make and I've called out your "point."

I think it does since the Bristish and Canadians are our closest allies. And please don't try to raise the bar for your side, nobody is praising this woman's joke either.

Anyway, how about this then ? And this ?

There are scum on both sides, racist and revolutionary thugs. Trying to paint entire parties/movements as racist or unhinged or fringe is stupid.

Michelle Malkin is part of that scum. She is the lowest of the low.

You seem set on deflecting with a movie not made here and trying to make it seem on par with a leader of a movement at the heart of the GOP. Doesn't work. Might go over well with your FOX News discussion forum buddies, but not here.

      Brother Barack

Again with calling our President "brother" while whining about President Bush.

And then there's this at the very top of your page:

"I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid ........ until I heard the mother talk" - Bill Cosby

Care to explain the point you're making?
